Outdoor Learning

At New Park Primary Academy, our Personal Development curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, resilience, and a deep connection with the natural world.  As part of this, our Forest School, set within our school field, provides children with regular opportunities to engage in meaningful outdoor learning experiences that support their personal development and holistic growth.

Our Forest School aims to:

  1. Develop Personal Growth and Well-being
    • Foster confidence, self-esteem, and resilience through hands-on outdoor experiences.
    • Encourage risk-taking, problem-solving, and independence in a safe and supportive environment.
    • Promote mental health and emotional well-being by connecting children with nature.
  2. Enhance Learning Beyond the Classroom
    • Provide experiential learning opportunities that complement and enrich the national curriculum.
    • Develop practical skills such as tool use, shelter building, and fire lighting, fostering creativity and resourcefulness.
    • Encourage teamwork, collaboration, and communication through group activities and problem-solving challenges.
  3. Encourage Environmental Awareness and Responsibility
    • Instil a sense of respect, appreciation, and care for the natural environment.
    • Teach sustainable practices and the importance of conservation and biodiversity.
    • Inspire future generations to become responsible global citizens with an awareness of environmental challenges.
  4. Support Physical Development and Healthy Lifestyles
    • Promote active lifestyles through outdoor exploration and physical play.
    • Improve motor skills, coordination, and physical resilience through practical outdoor tasks.
    • Encourage children to experience the seasons, weather, and natural elements in a safe and stimulating environment.

Our Forest School sessions are delivered by Mrs Bailey, a trained practitioner and our Year 4 class teacher,  who facilitates child-led and structured activities tailored to the needs of each class. Children engage in activities such as den building, bug hunting, natural crafts, storytelling, and mindfulness in nature, all of which align with our core values and school ethos.

By integrating Forest School into our curriculum, we empower children to develop essential life skills, build resilience, and foster a lifelong love for learning beyond the classroom.
